In more sports news about people who took last year off, after abruptly quitting football a year ago under very strange circumstances, Ricky Williams has decided to return to the Miami Dolphins this year.
When asked why he was returning, Ricky had this to say:
“Why? Why? I don’t know. I don’t know,” he said. “I’ve been away doing my own thing, studying a lot of alternate theories about life. To go into that answer — it can’t be picked up in a sound byte or easily understood. So the best way I can think of to put it is that I’m back here to work.”
He’s back to work. That God given drive that causes us to want to do something with ourselves has caused him to stop his aimless wandering and return to the only job he’s even known: football.
Of course, there might have been some other motivation than just the desire to work. Ricky might need a little cash these days.
A court found the 1998 Heisman Trophy winner in breach of contract by retiring and ordered him to repay the team $8.6 million….
Because Williams sat out last season, he’s due only the NFL minimum $540,000 this year, compared with the $3.7 million he passed up in 2004.
That was an expensive year he took off.
