Update: Our friends from the left point out that it is actually Ashcroft, not Bush, that has the Monkey Bar voters locked up.

Q.87. What is repentance unto life?

A. Repentance unto life is a saving grace, by which a sinner, being truly aware of his sinfulness, understands the mercy of God in Christ, grieves for and hates his sins, and turns from them to God, fully intending and striving for a new obedience.

The Democrats keep getting all uptight about all the perceived slights they see around them every day. Someone quotes Kerry’s voting record on defense spending, and Kerry has a fit, demanding an apology for they way they challenged his patriotism. In a campaign advertisement, Bush shows a scene from his visit to New York after the World Trade Center was destroyed by terrorists, something that was a defining moment for his presidency, and the Democrats start foaming at the mouth in condemning this politizing of tradegy.

(Note the current push from the left condemning Bush for not allowing the media to publish photos of returning coffins of soldiers killed in Iraq. Just who is trying to politize tradegy and why? I think the answer to that is clear.)

Now this:

Democrats are furious about a statement by Republicans saying that comparing one of their candidates to presidential candidate John Kerry would be worse than comparing someone to the Ku Klux Klan.

The dispute started when The New York Times inadvertently published a photo of Republican Senate candidate Pete Coors above a story about a KKK member who murdered a black sharecropper. The Times published a correction Saturday.

Cinamon Watson, spokeswoman for Coors, said the error was "so outrageous it’s kind of funny. It could have been worse. Pete could have been identified as John Kerry."

Chris Gates, chairman of the Colorado Democratic Party, demanded an apology. He said Democrats are "out there campaigning positively on the issues, and the Republicans can’t help but resort to the lowest level of insult and name-calling."

It’s a joke, Chris. It was most likely an off the cuff remark that Cinamon regrets. (I love the name. Cinamon Watson. Her name sounds like a character in a James Bond book written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.) But like most of the Democrats these days, Chris doesn’t seem to have much of a sense of humor.

However, notice the difference in the attitudes: Giving the credit of the doubt to the NYT, an honest mistake was made and admitted. They linked Coors to KKK. But instead of having a fit, the Republican laughs about it and makes a joke.

The Democrat, on the other hand, sees no humor in the situation, whines about being slighted, and demands an apology for how much their feelings have been hurt.

But also note the hypocrisy here. The Democrats are making a living by calling Bush a liar. At a campaign party, John Kerry’s wife, Terressa Heinz, recently was handing out buttons stamped "Asses of Evil" and pictures of Bush, Cheney and Ashcroft on them.

I’ve heard the Republicans point out differences in policy and voting records, but I do not recall any actual name calling (unless you call it name calling to point out that someone’s track record shows them to be a liberal.).

But from the Democrats side of the aisle, you hear hateful, course, demeaning, and untrue slanders on a regular bases, particularly aimed at Bush, Cheney and Ashcroft.

So, I’ll close with a suggestion.

Matthew 7:3-5

3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

Despite the shrapnel wounds Staff Sgt. William Pinkley suffered during his tour in Iraq, the 26-year-old is joining other soldiers who are re-enlisting at rates that exceed the retention goals set by the Pentagon.

Well, I’m glad we cleared that up. I just have one last thing to say on this topic: “Rabbit season!” “Duck season!” “Rabbit season!”

Is it just me, or is the AP pulling for Snarlin’ Arlen? Poor, persecuted, moderate Arlen, fighting for his political life against that mean, conservative, polarized Toomey. This must be the result of that right-wing, corporate controlled press I keep hearing the Democrats whine about so much.

In an otherwise excellent Opinion Journal article on why people haven’t turned on Bush over Iraq, Peggy Noonan makes the following statement.

If Bill Clinton, who thought Iraq had WMDs, had invaded Iraq post-9/11 and not found them, he would have been thrown out of office. That’s because no one ever believed what Mr. Clinton said, and they wouldn’t have believed his explanations. They assumed most of what he did had a cynical and self-serving basis. Mr. Bush doesn’t have that problem, because regular people don’t think he’s a habitual liar. (This is why in presidential elections character trumps everything. It’s not some abstraction, it has practical and daily presidential applications.)

If Clinton invaded Iraq and didn’t find WMD, he would have been thrown out? Clinton used the military as his own personal media distraction every time some scandal was the center of media attention. And the media played along, giving him a free pass. I believe that Clinton should have been impeached for attacking Iraq on the day his impeachment hearings opened in the House. But the media never called him on it.

The people who are criticizing Bush for invading Iraq are the same crowd who could find no wrong with what Clinton ever did. Why would Noonan ever think that they would call him to account for attacking Iraq without finding WMD?
